(Dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan)

State independence and sovereignty, achieved after centuries of struggle, sacrifice, and hard work by the freedom-loving Tajik people, are rightly considered a great historical achievement. It is precisely this independence that laid the foundation for building a modern state and, at the same time, set extremely important and responsible tasks before society. One of the most important of these is the formation of a system of governance that meets national interests and corresponds to modern requirements. Achieving these goals required continuous effort and strong determination, as building an independent state is not limited to declaring independence, but is a long and complex process in which every citizen must contribute. It was this sense of responsibility and patriotism that enabled the Tajik people, even in difficult conditions, to choose the path of sustainable development, strengthen the foundations of statehood, preserve national values such as language, culture, and traditions, and create a reliable basis for economic and social progress. Thus, independence has become not only a symbol of freedom but also a key factor in the comprehensive development of the country. Today, we can proudly say that independence for the Tajik nation is not only a historical event but also the beginning of a new stage of development. Thanks to it, Tajikistan has found its place in the international community, expanded its international relations, safeguarded national interests, and continued its path of state-building based on national values. This process shows that independence for us is not only a right but also a great responsibility, and every present and future generation is obliged to preserve and strengthen it.

Independence and freedom are recognized as the most sacred values for every nation and state, and their worth cannot be compared to anything else, as freedom allows individuals to determine their own destiny and strive toward high goals. Therefore, the Tajik people deeply value independence, protect it as a priceless blessing, and are ready to overcome any difficulties to ensure its stability. As emphasized by Emomali Rahmon, safeguarding independence and national unity is the sacred duty of every citizen. These words are especially relevant today, as the modern world presents various threats and challenges that can affect the stability of states. Therefore, every citizen must actively participate in protecting national interests with a strong sense of patriotism, contribute to the development of society, respect national values, and pass them on to future generations. Such an approach guarantees the sustainability of independence, promotes societal progress, strengthens statehood, improves living standards, and creates favorable conditions for further development. All of this demonstrates that independence is not only a value but also a great civic responsibility.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states emerged on the political map of the world, each choosing its own path of development. The Republic of Tajikistan declared its independence on September 9, 1991, entering a new historical stage. This event was of great importance for the Tajik people, as it enabled the country to independently conduct its domestic and foreign policies, protect national interests, revive and strengthen national identity, and present itself on the international stage as an independent state. Friendly relations were established with other countries, and active participation in international organizations was ensured. All of this contributed to the gradual strengthening of Tajikistan’s position in the global community, economic and social development, and improved living conditions. National symbols — the Flag, Coat of Arms, and National Anthem — were adopted as key attributes of statehood and today represent symbols of pride and unity. All this shows that independence is a source of pride and progress for the Tajik nation. Today, on the eve of the 35th anniversary of independence, these achievements are felt even more strongly, and society proudly reflects on its path while confidently looking to the future. The anniversary is not only a historical date but also a symbol of strengthened statehood, national unity, and sustainable development.

Despite significant achievements, the early years of independence were extremely difficult for Tajikistan. Political disagreements and internal conflicts led to serious confrontation that escalated into civil war, causing great damage to the economy and social sphere, disrupting peaceful life, and resulting in heavy human losses. In such difficult conditions, the restoration of peace and national unity became essential. Thanks to the wise leadership and strong will of the country’s leadership, especially the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, peace was restored and national unity was achieved. This accomplishment is considered one of the most important historical victories of Tajikistan, as it created the foundation for further development, strengthened statehood, and allowed society to return to constructive progress. As a result, Tajikistan gradually moved toward development, strengthened its position internationally, and is now known as a peace-loving and proactive state contributing significantly to solving global issues, including water-related challenges. Its initiatives are supported by the international community. All this shows that independence has provided the Tajik people not only with freedom but also with opportunities for development and progress, and therefore its protection is the sacred duty of every citizen.
