National Army Day, annually celebrated on February 23 throughout the Republic of Tajikistan with a profound sense of pride and dignity, is considered one of the most significant and symbolic dates in the modern history of Tajik statehood. The establishment of the Armed Forces laid the essential foundation for safeguarding state independence and ensuring national security.

The formation of the National Army during an extremely sensitive and challenging historical period, when the country was overcoming serious political and social difficulties, was implemented on February 23, 1993, at the direct initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Emomali Rahmon. This step is rightly regarded as a historic and decisive measure in strengthening statehood and protecting the country’s territorial integrity.

At a time when society urgently needed peace, stability and unity, the creation of the National Army as a centralized and organized state force contributed significantly to restoring order and safeguarding the values of independence. From its earliest days, the National Army assumed the sacred duty of protecting the borders of the Motherland, ensuring the security of citizens and defending national interests, thereby playing a vital role in consolidating political stability.

Over the years, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan have steadily developed and improved. The command structure has been strengthened, combat readiness enhanced, and the material and technical base modernized, positively influencing the country’s defense capability. Today, the National Army stands as a key state institution comprising various military units, ground forces, air forces and other specialized structures operating in coordination to ensure national security.

Through state programs and military reforms, the level of professional training of officers and soldiers continues to rise, and they are equipped with modern technology and equipment that meet contemporary standards. Alongside technical development, special attention is paid to the moral and ethical education of military personnel, since the true strength of any army lies in the will, loyalty and high patriotic consciousness of its members.

The National Army is not only the defensive force of the state but also a great school of courage, discipline and responsibility for young people. Service in its ranks fosters respect for the law, adherence to order and devotion to the Motherland. For every young citizen, serving in the Armed Forces is a great honor that prepares him for independent life, resilience and perseverance. It is within the military environment that young people realize that defending the borders of the Motherland is a sacred civic duty.

In today’s complex world, where various security threats exist — including terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other transnational challenges — the presence of a strong and combat-ready army is essential for every state. The Republic of Tajikistan, located in a geopolitically strategic region, pays special attention to strengthening its defense capacity and enhancing the combat readiness of its Armed Forces.

Celebrating National Army Day is not merely an official ceremony but a manifestation of the people’s respect and gratitude toward the defenders of the Motherland. This day reminds us to value peace, independence and national unity and to feel personal responsibility for their preservation.

Today, the National Army of the Republic of Tajikistan is recognized as a reliable pillar of statehood and a symbol of national strength, continuing to fulfill its sacred mission with firm determination and a high patriotic spirit.
