“The National Army of Tajikistan has, during the years of independence, become a powerful force ensuring reliable protection of the state’s borders and the security of its citizens.”
Emomali Rahmon

This year marks 33 years since the establishment of the National Army. The Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan are a product of Independence and were formed under difficult historical circumstances.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, newly independent states, particularly those of Central Asia, established their armed forces based on existing military infrastructure. The history of heroism, courage and bravery of our fathers and grandfathers serves as an example for every serviceman. The national character of the army and the respect of the people of Tajikistan toward military service positively influence its development.

On February 23, 1993, the first military parade of the National Army took place, and this date was officially declared the founding day of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan. In honor of this occasion, especially by the Ministry of Defense, significant efforts are undertaken to strengthen combat readiness and discipline.

Every independent state relies on its National Army to ensure stability and security. Over its 33-year history, the National Army of independent Tajikistan has proven itself to be a key pillar of statehood, a reliable shield of the nation and a guarantor of peace and stability.

In his speeches, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation and President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has repeatedly emphasized that the National Army was established during an extremely difficult political and economic period.

Over time, the National Army of Tajikistan has become one of the country’s strong and capable forces. This achievement reflects the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to ensure security, peaceful life for citizens and the strengthening of national borders.

Article 43 of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan states:
“The defense of the Motherland, protection of state interests, strengthening of independence, security and defense capability are the sacred duty of every citizen.”

Indeed, protecting the Motherland and ensuring public security is the foremost duty of every responsible citizen. Each year, young people voluntarily join the ranks of the National Army and faithfully serve their Motherland.

The National Army performs several key functions:

  1. Ensuring public safety

  2. Protecting the state borders

  3. Neutralizing terrorist and extremist groups

  4. Suppressing anti-state rebellions

We must value our Independence and contribute to the prosperity of our beloved country. The Armed Forces have always been a solid foundation and guarantor of peaceful life in any independent state. The army fulfills an important defensive mission and instills in young people courage, responsibility and devotion.

In today’s changing global political climate, with threats such as terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, the role of the Armed Forces becomes even more significant.

The Republic of Tajikistan, possessing an extensive border, maintains combat-ready military forces to ensure border security and internal stability. The Armed Forces serve as a reliable pillar in safeguarding national interests.

The National Army is a symbol of independence, territorial integrity and pride for every citizen of Tajikistan. The annual celebration of February 23 is not only an expression of gratitude to servicemen but also a tribute to national values and patriotism.
